Maldon Art Club

Maldon Art Club (MAC) is a well established adult art group, providing a year long programme of art activities in Maldon.
MAC meet weekly on Tuesdays, from September to May at the Upper Plume School Dining Hall in Fambridge Road, Maldon, followed by an outdoor summer programme.

In addition to our regular meetings where members choose their own work and medium, an annual  programme of events is arranged. The events include visiting galleries and exhibitions, inviting professional artists to demonstrate their work or technique, holding outdoor meetings and exhibiting club member’s work.  The group also enjoys locally held social events.

Maldon Art Club has been active in the cultural life of Maldon since 1942. It started as one of the groups that were formed to support and continue cultural activities in towns and cities in what was the worst year of the war for people in this country. In addition to art, drama, choral and orchestral music groups were formed and after the war a camera club was added.
Money was provided by the Maldon Educational Settlement that was associated with the Essex Educational Committee. In the Moot Hall archives we found a financial statement from 1956 which records the Art Club as having an income of £1.11s.6d and the Art Club class 7 Guineas.

Like so many organizations, this Club owes its existence to the enthusiasm and commitment of its members.Maldon Art Club

2015 will see this little space show its first ever mini exhibition curated by one of the resident artists. One piece of work will be selected from each of the Hylands Artists and displayed in the Clock Tower Gallery.
Each themed exhibition will last for about 6 weeks before another of the artists selects work of their choice.
All the work will be for sale and available for collection at the end of each exhibition.

East Anglian Group of Marine Artists

East Anglian Group of Marine Artists are a small group of professional and semi-professional artists with a shared enthusiasm for depicting marine subjects.
Together with holding exhibitions the group also meet socially and take part in outdoor painting days several times a year, usually including one ‘afloat’ on members’ yachts, or often aboard a Thames Sailing Barge.

The Group came into being in 1979 when six marine painters met at the famous ‘Butt and Oyster’ pub at Pin Mill, located on the banks of the River Orwell in Suffolk.
Soon others were invited to join, amongst them some well known and highly regarded artists who were also attracted by the allure of the subject matter on offer along the East Coast.
Following an inaugural exhibition in 1980 the group has advanced progressively both in quality and diversity to make it the respected organisation it is today.
