The Minories Art Gallery

The Minories Galleries houses a contemporary art gallery run by Colchester School of Art. The site is also home to a shop selling some of the best art and crafts to be found across the region, has meeting rooms for hire, and can also cater for weddings and other events. A listed Georgian building, The Minories is of local importance within the historic town of Colchester.

The Victor Batte-Lay Foundation, over the years assisted by the ‘Friends of The Minories’ support group, have ensured the building be used to present art for the community of Colchester and visitors to the town. This has continued and now ensures the Colchester School of Art provides contemporary art and design in one of Colchester’s most distinctive buildings.

As well as the public gallery and shop, there is also the Batte-Lay Tea Rooms (run by Tiptree) and a wonderful walled garden that is looked after by The Friends of The Minories. The Minories is next door to Firstsite, Colchester’s new contemporary art space, in the centre of the town’s cultural quarter.
The Galleries are open Monday – Saturday 10.00am – 5.00pm.
Entry is Free.

Colchester School of Art we are proud to have a history dating from 1885, the year the original Art School was founded.
As well as being witness to the many great developments and upheavals of the twentieth century, the Art School has adapted to the increasing pace of change in contemporary art and design practice.
Today we strive to maintain the integrity of our courses, at the heart of which is a desire to develop concepts, designs and objects that will challenge and inspire. We believe in skill, traditional or otherwise, as a basis for understanding how ideas can exist.

East Anglian Group of Marine Artists

East Anglian Group of Marine Artists are a small group of professional and semi-professional artists with a shared enthusiasm for depicting marine subjects.
Together with holding exhibitions the group also meet socially and take part in outdoor painting days several times a year, usually including one ‘afloat’ on members’ yachts, or often aboard a Thames Sailing Barge.

The Group came into being in 1979 when six marine painters met at the famous ‘Butt and Oyster’ pub at Pin Mill, located on the banks of the River Orwell in Suffolk.
Soon others were invited to join, amongst them some well known and highly regarded artists who were also attracted by the allure of the subject matter on offer along the East Coast.
Following an inaugural exhibition in 1980 the group has advanced progressively both in quality and diversity to make it the respected organisation it is today.

We are always happy to answer any enquiries, so if you have any questions, or would like to offer your support, please do not hesitate in contacting us.

_Disclosure Policy

Disclosure Policy

If I create a link to a product in a review, sometimes I may get paid a commission if a visitor to my site purchases the product.

While it is a good practice for the visitor of any review site to treat every product recommendation with a healthy degree of scepticism, it would be a mistake to assume that every review is invalid just because there may be a commission paid to the reviewer. Here are some of the readers protections we attempt to build into our reviews:

1. Many of the reviews contain lots of factual information that is easily verifiable. We always try to provide an honest and accurate assessment.

2. The review includes a section that is a subjective summary. This is based on the personal experience of the reviewer.

3. Attempts are made to establish the general consensus in relation to specific products by reading reviews of those products on other sites, along with user testimonials and we attempt to portray this overall perception in our reviews.

4. We always provide links to the manufacturers’ website to provide additional information that is not available in our reviews. Some of this information can include customer testimonials, more specific product details, sales information, free newsletters and even samples. These are good rules of practice. It is important for you as a consumer to understand the relationship between a person reviewing the product and the manufacturer. If you do not see a disclosure policy on a review site, that reviewer may be committing an offence.

I hope that you have a useful and meaningful experience as a direct result of our detailed reviews and articles. We welcome any feedback that may help us to improve your experience when visiting this website.

The Federal Trade Commission requires that I publish the guidelines concerning any product reviews you see on this website. Please read my Disclosure Policy. Libel in Comments: This website is open to comments. You will find user-generated comments under many articles and other pages. If you are making a comment, then do not commit libel. Libel is a written statement about someone that is not based in fact. State all the facts you want and allow other visitors to decide who is right. As a website owner and publisher, Federal Law has been passed that offers immunity to me in case you do cross the line and commit libel. So to save all of us lots of time, don’t do it. Just state all the facts of what happened and keep out all adjectives describing the person and there product. Your Use of web sites: I grew up in the age before personal computers. We had search engines when I was younger, but we called them the Yellow Pages. Do you still have one in your home? Go get it and look to see the fattest category – the one with the most businesses in it. Is it Attorneys or Lawyers? You bet it is. Before we go any further, you need to know that many of my friends are attorneys. Seriously, and they have read this page with a grin on their faces. These people need work and many create billable hours filing lawsuits, writing interrogatories, doing discovery, taking depositions, etc. All these things create billable hours. You and I pay for this stuff in higher prices of many consumer goods.

In Short: Our website contains some affiliate marketing links, which means we get paid commission on sales of those products or services we write about. Our editorial content is not influenced by advertisers or affiliate partnerships. We use a 3rd Party to enable these affiliate partnerships.
