Brentwood Art Society

The Brentwood Art Society was formed in 1958 and today is a thriving organisation that brings like minded people together to share and develop their interest in the visual arts. There are currently over forty members and the Society attracts new members each year. The high standard of artwork associated with the group is maintained by both practising and amateur artists.

Practical sessions are held on Mondays and Thursdays at the Hardy Amies Art Studios at Brentwood School from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. There is a tutor on Monday evenings. On Thursday evenings members work from a model, without a tutor.
The Brentwood Art Society came into being after a new resident, who deplored the lack of such a group in the town, placed an advertisement in the local newspaper. Mr Balch held an inaugural meeting in his house and was joined by just three others. That was back in 1958 and today the Society is a thriving organisation that continues to bring like minded people together to share and develop their interest in the visual arts. The Society attracts new members each year and the high standard of artwork associated with the group is maintained by both practising and amateur artists.

There are two sessions a week and tuition is provided by a team of professional tutors and visiting specialists. Practical demonstrations and talks take place on a range of art related subjects, as well as weekend workshops and art trips. The studio sessions provide opportunities to experience a wide range of techniques and approaches, and many individuals gain the confidence to hold solo and small group exhibitions, which are always well supported by fellow members.
New members are welcome and those interested in joining should email brentwoodartsoc@gmail.com or contact the Secretary, Margaret Hurst, Tel: 01277 227205.
